Former dispensing optician goes distance at care industry awards

A former dispensing optician who switched careers to work with older people has been rewarded for her efforts with a top industry award.

Louise Price, 39, scooped silver in the Exceptional Newcomer category of the Wales Care Awards 2016, run by Care Forum Wales. The award, sponsored by Coleg Cambria, was one of a series of gongs which acknowledge the hard work and exceptional performances of those in the care sector.

Louise, who works as a client liaison officer at Penpergwm House Residential Home in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, collected her accolade at a glittering awards ceremony held at City Hall in Cardiff. (more…)

Caring Jeni is as good as gold

An American who says that caring is her passion says she feels “humbled” to have won a prestigious award so soon after taking up a new job.

Jeni Lynne Williams, a care assistant at the Bryn Celyn Care Home in Maesteg, was among the gold award winners in this year’s Wales Care Awards.

Jeni, who settled in this country just 12 months ago, won her award in the category for Exceptional Newcomer, sponsored by Coleg Cambria. Jeni, 27, hails from Indiana but her husband Steven is from Maesteg and she visited South Wales several times before they decided to settle in this country. (more…)

Ex-triathlon competitor wins gold in care awards final

A former triathlon competitor who became a care worker just 12 months ago has proven himself a national inspiration after scooping gold in the care industry ‘Oscars’.

James Colburn, who gave up his job as a chef to become a full-time care worker, is one of the youngest members of staff at Three Cliffs Care Home in Penmaen, Swansea.

But the 20-year-old care assistant has proven that age is no barrier when it comes to high-quality care and dedication after winning the top gong in the Wales Care Awards 2016. (more…)
