Louise on top of the world after winning gold award

Winning a gold award at the 2016 Wales Care Awards was an all time career high for social care trainer Louise Davies Rae.

The glittering evening was made all the more memorable when she got to have her photograph taken with internationally known Welsh tenor, Wynne Evans, aka the opera singer Gio Compario from the television commercials for the fun-filled Gocompare.com insurance group advertising campaign.

Louise, who lives with her family in Bangor on Dee, near Wrexham,  is a big fan of his and enthused: “He was fantastic and really entertaining as our compere for the evening. It made the night even more enjoyable. I shall never forget it.” (more…)

Kickboxing care home manager strikes gold

A kickboxing care home manager was left floored when she received a prestigious award..

Lorraine Jackson, Registered Manager of the Ty Hendy Care Home in Hendy, near Llanelli, received a gold award at this year’s social care Oscars, the Wales Care Awards.

The awards are organised by Care Forum Wales to reward outstanding work in the care sector and Lorraine was shortlisted in the category for Leadership in Residential Care Services. (more…)

Children’s worker rises to the top with national award

A children’s home manager who helps young people overcome a difficult start in life has become the toast of the care industry by winning a national award.

Leanne Bennett has scooped a coveted gold award in the Wales Care Awards 2016, run by Care Forum Wales, which acknowledge the hard work and exceptional performances of those in the care sector.

The 30-year-old, from Wrexham, who has been the registered manager of a specialist therapeutic children’s home in Ruthin, run by Branas Isaf, since January 2015, won the Peter Clarke Award for Promoting Excellence in Services for Children and Young People. (more…)

Kelly wins silver award at social care Oscars

A Merthyr care worker has added to her growing collection of awards by taking silver at the social care Oscars.

Kelly Collard, a senior carer at Greenhill Manor home in Pentrebach, was among those honoured at this year’s Wales Care Awards, which are organised by Care Forum Wales to recognise exceptional practice in the care sector. MC for the event was opera singer and radio presenter Wynne Evans, also known as Gio Compario from the TV adverts for Go Compare.

Kelly, 35, who lives on the Gellideg Estate, won a silver award in the category for Residential Care Practitioner, sponsored by the Older People’s Commissioner. (more…)

Julie honoured at social care Oscars

A nurse whose skills and experience have transformed a Carmarthen care home in a matter of months has won a national award.

Just 12 months after joining the staff of Plas y Dderwen in Johnstown Julie Evans was honoured in this year’s Wales Care Awards.

The awards are organised by Care Forum Wales to highlight and reward exceptional practice in the care sector and the prize giving ceremony was held at City Hall, Cardiff. Julie received a silver award in the category for Excellence in Dementia Care which is sponsored by FISC Healthcare. (more…)

Rugby hero Josh takes silver at care industry awards

A rugby-playing dad who devotes his time to help turn around the lives of young people in a children’s home has been presented with a top care award.

Josh Wilson, 25, scooped a silver trophy in the Exceptional Newcomer category of the Wales Care Awards 2016, run by Care Forum Wales.

The keen sportsman has been described as a role model for the youngsters he supports at a specialist therapeutic children’s home in Ruthin by encouraging them to strive for the best and keep active through sport. (more…)

Safety conscious Ian wins silver at prestigious care industry awards

A health and safety advisor whose coal mining family history inspired him to fight for workplace health has won a coveted care industry award.

Published author Ian Fisher scooped silver in the Innovation in Health and Safety category of the Wales Care Awards 2016, organised by Care Forum Wales. The prestigious national awards, run by Care Forum Wales, acknowledge the hard work and exceptional performances of those in the care sector.

The 60-year-old, who grew up in the coalmining town of Ripley in Derbyshire, collected the gong at a glittering ceremony at City Hall in Cardiff. (more…)

Former restaurant boss cooks up double gold at care Oscars

A care worker was just recovering  from the shock of winning a gold award at a glittering ceremony when she was called up to the stage a second time.

Former restaurant manager Helen Kermode was among the outstanding winners at this year’s Wales Care Awards, organised by Care Forum Wales to recognise exceptional practice in the sector.

Helen, who hails from Devon, won a gold award in the category for Residential Care Practitioner which was sponsored by the Older People’s Commissioner. She had just returned to her seat when she was named as the winner of the Dignity in Care Award for which nominees in all the categories were eligible. (more…)

Gold and silver awards at the double

A Nantyglo woman has enjoyed gold and silver celebrations within 48 hours.

For two days after her 50th birthday Helen Beecham was among the recipients at this year’s Wales Care Awards at a ceremony in City Hall, Cardiff at which the MC was opera singer and TV presenter Wynne Evans.

The awards are organised by Care Forum Wales to recognise exceptional work in the care sector and Helen won a silver award in the category for Leadership and Management in Residential Care Services. (more…)

Caring Gwenda is eggstra special

The manager of an Anglesey care home on a farm where residents collect the eggs and look after the animals has won a top award.

Farmer’s daughter Gwenda Potter was brought up next door to the Regard Partnership’s Beudygwyn Farm at Carreglefn, near Amlwch, where she now works and recalls the residents visiting her home.

Now her exceptional work helping vulnerable people has been recognised at the Wales Care Awards – the social care sector’s “Oscars.” (more…)
